Greetings Den 6 Families!  We are off to a great start!  The boys enjoyed a fun afternoon a few Fridays ago and worked on three achievements: Bike Safety, Games and Building Muscles.(Achievements 14, 15, 16)  We had them running races and playing a fun game of capture the flag.  The afternoon was capped off with a campfire and snacks!

As Bear Scouts the Boys will need to complete 12 achievements in order to earn their Bear Cub Scout Rank.  So we’ve got some work to do.  We have planned a few events for the fall so mark your calendars.  I will send out a notice for each about a week in advance. 

I’d like to welcome a new Scout to Den 6 – Steven Liu is our newest member and we are excited to have him!

Activities/Dates:

• Pack Camp out Sept 17^th 5pm  - Saturday Morning.  Dinner is at 7.  Come for some or all of it.  Sam & I will be there all night long!!  I have signed the boys up to do something during the campfire – maybe each boy can come with a favorite joke to tell!

 

• Den Meeting on Oct 1^st, after school: Knot tying (achievement 22) Don Russ and Luke’s Grandfather will teach the boys to tie some knots!  Pick up at 4:30, Location TBD

 

• Den Event, Pack Rocket Launch: Sunday Oct 3^rd, Artesian park

 

• Pumpkin Chase: Saturday Oct 16^th- 9am – Pumpkin Chase 1 mile run.  More details to come – the boys will need to register on their own but we can run as a Den.  I am planning to run with Sam

 

• Boo Camp: Saturday Oct 16^th, evening.  A Pack wide activity with more details to come.  I believe this will be Sat evening and all family members are welcome

 

• Pack meeting Oct 22, 7pm Grace Church

 

• Ghost Walk: Sunday Oct 24^th .  A nice way to get a little Lake Bluff history under our belts.  We will plan for an early group: likely starting about 5pm and run for about an hour.  Families are welcome.  We will meet at the Vliet museum and can finish afterward with a bite at the Noodle Bar if anyone is up for it.  I will send out ticket info ahead of time, ticket buying will be the responsibility of each family. (Achievement 8 & 10)

 

• Den Event, Sunday Nov 7^th – Veterans Day Scavenger Hunt, Village Green 1 – 3:30

 

• Friday Nov 12^th: Visit and tour of a bank in Lake Forest.  We will learn about saving and finance (Achievement 13).  Deb and/or I will drive the boys OR we may take the train!  Pick up details to come later...

 

• Den Meeting Friday Dec 3^rd: Theme is still being finalized but an after school Den activity/field trip.

 

• Dec 10: Den event Caroling & Hay Ride

 

We need help!  There are many more achievements we can cover in the winter and spring months: Cooking, Wildlife, Religion, environmental, wood working.  Not to mention lots of electives – check out the handbook.   We’d love to have some parents organize or participate in at least one Den event this year.
